DeviceVigil extension privacy policy

Effective October 31, 2026. Publisher: Thump LLC (“we”). Contact: hello@devicevigil.com.

DeviceVigil is a browser extension that shows public U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) medical device data beside FDA database pages. It is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the FDA.

What the extension collects

Nothing. DeviceVigil has no account, no server and no analytics. We do not receive, sell, share or have access to any information about you or how you use the extension.

What stays on your computer

These are stored only in your browser’s local extension storage, on your computer:

You can erase all of it at any time in Settings with “Erase all DeviceVigil data”, or by removing the extension.

What leaves your computer

Only requests to openFDA (api.fda.gov), a public FDA service, to look up public device data: product codes, submission numbers, device and company names you view or watch (including the words used to match adverse event reports), plus your openFDA API key if you added one. These requests are sent without cookies or a referrer. openFDA’s own terms and privacy practices apply to them: https://open.fda.gov/terms/.

Pages the extension reads

The extension reads only FDA device database pages on www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/ to find the record on screen. It does not read or change any other website.

On-device AI

If your browser provides a built-in, on-device AI model and you choose “Summarize recent reports”, public adverse event report text from openFDA is summarized by that model on your computer. The text is not sent to us or to any AI service.

Limited Use

The use of information received through this extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not transfer, sell or use any data for advertising, credit decisions or any purpose other than providing the extension’s single purpose.

Children

DeviceVigil is a professional tool and is not directed to children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at devicevigil.com with a new effective date.
